Tootsie Roll Answers Fan Demands by Launching Two Innovative New Candy Packs
Tootsie Roll fans spent late April 2026 flooding Instagram comments with lines like “This is the best day of my life” and “This should have happened years ago.” This level of excitement usually comes when a snack people grew up with suddenly changes the rules after decades of staying almost the same.
For more than a century, Tootsie Roll has built its reputation on consistency. The original chewy chocolate rolls and Tootsie Pops barely changed while other candy brands chased strange flavors, flashy packaging, and viral gimmicks. The steadiness helped the company stick around since 1907, but it also led to years of requests straight from the candy aisle. Now, the brand has finally decided to answer them.
A Fan Request Turned Into a Real Product
The biggest surprise came with a new product called Fruit Ones. The candy pack has the classic hard shell of a Tootsie Pop but swaps the traditional chocolate center for fruity, chewy fillings. The idea actually started with a customer comment online asking, “Why not put fruit Tootsie Rolls inside Tootsie Pops?”
Instead of ignoring the suggestion, Tootsie Roll built an entire launch around it. In the company’s Instagram announcement posted on April 20, the phrase “You asked, we listened” appeared alongside the reveal video.
Instagram comments filled up fast with positive reactions. One person joked that the company spent 118 years protecting perfection before somehow making it “more perfecter.”
Berry Flavors Are Joining the Party Too
Fruit Ones are only half the story. A second release, Berry Ones, arrived days later with four chewy berry-inspired flavors: Strawberry, Cherry Berry, Blueberry, and Blue Raspberry. This pushes Tootsie Roll further toward a fruit-candy identity without abandoning the chewy texture tied to the brand’s identity.
Tootsie Roll Has Silently Been Updating Its Image
Last fall, Tootsie Roll refreshed its famous commercial asking Mr. Owl how many licks it takes to reach the center of a Tootsie Pop. The updated version kept the classic concept but added new animation and voice work. That campaign made it apparent that the company seems interested in modernizing carefully.

At the moment, both Fruit Ones and Berry Ones are only available at select Walmart locations. The limited rollout has already generated extra buzz online, especially among shoppers trying to track down the packs before a wider release is announced.
