That Time Costco Shook the Food Court with the Arrival of the Highly Anticipated Turkey Swiss Sandwich
Costco customers spent months complaining after one popular sandwich disappeared from the food court. Then, in March 2025, shoppers started spotting signs that it was coming back. Costco officially confirmed it in April, and longtime fans were thrilled. The Hot Turkey and Provolone Sandwich had officially returned to Costco food courts after being removed during the pandemic.
The Turkey Sandwich Drama
The conversation around Costco sandwiches actually started long before the hot turkey and provolone came back. In early 2024, reports surfaced that Costco was preparing to launch a Turkey & Swiss Sandwich for $6.99. According to social media posts shared by Costco fan accounts, the sandwich included turkey, Swiss cheese, green leaf lettuce, Dijon mustard, and a sun-dried tomato spread on a roll.
Many shoppers immediately compared it to the discontinued Hot Turkey and Provolone Sandwich that had built a loyal following before disappearing years earlier.
Customers called the Turkey & Swiss sandwich “dry,” questioned the $6.99 price, and argued that the old toasted sandwich had far more flavor. Several Reddit users openly demanded the return of the turkey provolone pesto sandwich instead. One common criticism was that the Turkey & Swiss was served cold rather than toasted.
The Hot Turkey And Provolone Is Finally Back
Costco finally answered those requests in spring 2025. The warehouse chain confirmed the sandwich’s return in an Instagram post on April 5, 2025, after shoppers had already spotted it at select locations weeks earlier, including a Costco store in Eugene, Oregon.
The returning sandwich keeps the same oven-roasted turkey breast, provolone cheese, tomatoes, red onions, and basil-garlic mayonnaise, layered inside a toasted torta roll.
The comeback created immediate excitement online. Some shoppers said they had been waiting since 2020 for the sandwich to return. Others posted simple reactions like “THANK YOU” and “I need this.” Costco fans also noticed one important detail. According to early online customer reviews, the updated version appears to contain more meat than the original sandwich.
The Price Jump Still Has Shoppers Talking

The enthusiasm around the sandwich has not completely erased concerns about the price. Before the pandemic, the Hot Turkey and Provolone Sandwich was available, and customers said it sold for around $3.99. The current version costs $6.99, matching the earlier Turkey & Swiss Sandwich pricing that frustrated shoppers in the first place.
Customers have also criticized rising prices tied to newer menu additions, especially since the food court built its reputation on cheap comfort food and oversized portions.
Even so, many shoppers seem willing to overlook the higher cost because the returning sandwich evokes years of nostalgia.
