Aldi Fans Are Stocking Up on a New Two-Dollar Gourmet Staple Perfect for Summer Snacking
Aldi shoppers are rushing to buy a new pantry item that many compare to a popular Trader Joe’s product. The Greek Chickpeas with Parsley and Cumin, priced at about $2.29 per can, quickly gained attention online after appearing in stores. Reddit users began sharing meal ideas, recommending bulk purchases, and pointing out its similarities to Trader Joe’s longtime chickpea favorite.

Trader Joe’s Greek chickpeas already had a loyal following before Aldi entered the market. Fans treat the canned item like a shortcut ingredient because it comes packed in a seasoned oil blend with parsley, cumin, and lemon flavor already built in. This means the chickpeas are edible straight out of the can.
As soon as Aldi shoppers spotted the new product online, comparisons started pouring in. Some people immediately started listing recipes and lunch ideas before they had even found the cans in stores.
The price difference added even more attention. Trader Joe’s version sells for around $2.79, while Aldi’s 9.88-ounce cans cost closer to $2.29. Fifty cents may not sound huge until shoppers start stocking pantry shelves three or four cans at a time.
They’re Really Easy To Use
Shoppers say the chickpeas have a broad Mediterranean flavor rather than a strongly Greek one, so they’re easy to use in various dishes. People have suggested adding them to wraps, grain bowls, pasta salads, hummus, and roasted snack mixes.
One popular idea is mixing the chickpeas with cucumber, tomatoes, feta, dill, and red wine vinegar for a quick summer salad. Others recommend adding tuna or canned chicken for a high-protein lunch with very little prep. Some shoppers are also planning meal-prep bowls with orzo and grilled chicken.
A few customers said the chickpeas make a good snack, too. One shopper suggested air frying the drained chickpeas for extra crunch, while another said the flavor was good enough to eat straight from the can.
